It's an online institute with an innovative education that focuses on training professionals in the digital and creative industries. Graduated over 11,000 students in 200+ programs, has 9 departments, 16 annual programs, and a community of 70,000+ people
There are a lot of courses and one backend, and it is already outdated and poorly copes with the current tasks which we need to fix, but without losing touch with reality, because there are technical and cost constraints.
To sum up, our task was – simplify the launch of the course on the back office side.
Very long course editing page
Long onboarding for new employee
Separation of access for different users
Grouping by the department in the course list
Multilingual website
No way to track statistics
Meeting with a client where we discussed the project and made up a brief
We took a bird's-eye view of these systems and broke them down into classes, properties, roles, and worked through corner cases
Went beyond just web pages and sorted out how employees do their jobs, what steps they go through, what their purpose is, and what their role is.
Developed tokens and components for further prototype
We drew pages based on wireframes and turned them into an interactive prototype
Conducted controlled usability testing with employees and made changes based on their feedback
We have analyzed which data the manager is responsible for, and which data the editor is responsible for, and divided them into several logical blocks. Now the manager can easily find and change the necessary information
Also, we have divided access to some functionality by roles (example: the main settings the text editor can only look at, but not change, as it is not his area of responsibility)
Changed block layout in the same order as on the website, will make it easier to get acquainted with the interface
Next to each block now has a hint which will prompt how the block looks on the site, and how the information will be displayed on the site
Also, we added responsiveness, now the interface will remind you if you did not save the information or give a sign that it is saved.
We added navigation in the same order as on the website, also here you can easily disable blocks
As a result, we have reduced the length of the page 2 times, respectively, and the time to fill
Also during testing, we learned that most of the emails are not filled or simply not used, so we removed them from the mailing section not to mislead the editor, and fill only those that are used
